As a Bodyshop Vehicle Damage Assessor working within the Motor Trade you will be responsible for assessing the extent of damage to vehicles following accidents, then determining if the vehicle can be repaired and the amount work that needs to be carried out and the costs involved in order to repair it. You will have a keen eye for detail, an expert knowledge in not only car mechanics but also bodyshop techniques, as well as being methodical and systematic in your approach to your daily activities.
Depending on the type of Bodyshop you work in your duties will vary, however they will commonly include: Assessing the damage to a vehicle that has been caused as the result of a crash; looking at structural damage, mechanical and electrical repairs needed and what components and parts would be needed to repair satisfactorily, you will then, using estimating software, possibly Audatex or Glassmatix or Escribe, estimate the repair costs, both time and financial.
You may need on occasion to meet with either customer or Insurance Assessor to justify and qualify your estimate, so the ability to communicate professionally is an essential skill.
Typically qualifications revolve around the equipment used, and all major providers offer proficiency assessments in their products. Those in this position will have taken further qualifications, IMI qualification of Vehicle Damage Assessment.
