Sky High Production

Industry news

Manufacturing is looking to continue to grow in the UK.  In Coventry, the production of London Taxis is looking at creating up to 1000 jobs and Jaguar Land Rover are continually creating more and more jobs around the West Midlands. This can only be a good thing for those of us that work in the Motor industry and wish to see the continual growth of the industry.

With a great amount of these cars being exported it is fantastic to see that production remains in the UK creating thousands of jobs and helping fuel the economy. The automotive production in the UK helps to keep both highly skilled and low skilled workers in the UK and in jobs. With so many jobs being created it is a great time to be optimistic about the future of the UK's car industry and manufacturing.

With the election just around the corner, Nick Clegg has offered £100m to fund green car makers. Whilst the Lib Dems may not get voted into Parliament in a months’ time it just goes to show that everyone is thinking about the continual growth and improvement of the motor industry and manufacturing in the UK.

We have seen recently that the manufacturers are taking technicians out of dealerships and there is a struggle for local dealerships to keep their staff numbers up. This skill shortage, however, seems to be affecting the manufacturers too. Bentley Motors has been struggling to fill 150 jobs at its factory. These jobs are skilled roles in engineering and manufacturing.

Whilst this is a current struggle for all aspects of the Motor Trade, if we as an industry, can start to increase the number of apprenticeships offered through both dealerships and manufacturers we can continue to grow the industry here in the UK.

With production going through the roof in the UK are you as optimistic as I am about the future of the motor industry?
