When taking on a new vacancy, we are often asked for two criteria, so often in fact, that it’s almost a given. “Not too many jobs in a short space of time” and “Good education” or “Good qualifications”.
Too many jobs, they are a butterfly. They will not stay with you, not do a good job and not be a success. Poor education/qualifications will not be the sort of calibre ‘we’ need!
Well, let’s smash those preconceived ideas to pieces with some famous examples.
Too Many Jobs/Too Many Failures.
Winston Churchill – Defeated in every public office role he stood for, until becoming an MP and becoming Prime Minister aged 62
Harland David Sanders – You know him as Colonel Sanders – Over 1,000 restaurants rejected his ‘recipe’, now the World’s second largest restaurant chain.
Soichiro Honda – That’s right Mr HONDA was left unemployed when he was not successful for an engineering role with Toyota!
Lastly, Walt Disney was sacked from a newspaper job for “Lacking Imagination.”
Poor Education/Qualifications
Albert Einstein – Was labelled “Mentally Handicapped” by his teachers
Charles Darwin – Was a below average student and gave up his fledgeling career in medicine.
Thomas Edison – Was told by his teachers he was “too stupid to learn anything.”
Lastly, Steven Spielberg – Dropped out of school. Whatever happened to him?
The fact of the matter is simple. People are people - not a total of what's happened in their past. When we present a candidate to a client for an interview, it’s much more than just sending a CV.
We talk to the candidate, get to know them, looking at their history of jobs, qualifications and training as a starting point for the conversation. We match them to your role, including your business’s culture and the people already there.
We send you a CV to show a brief outline of their history, but we also call to give you information we have from the time we spend getting to know them. This information is much more important than just taking a look at a CV in isolation and will go some way to let you get to know the individual.
As a result, trust us, we’ve been doing this for 13 years. A candidate presented by Perfect Placement could well be the next James Dyson – Incidentally, his success was try number 5,128!
