There is scope in this question for a series of blogs given that there are so many possible answers, each targeting an individual problem that businesses face when hiring new members of staff.
Keeping this simple, picking a single person out, on behalf of the best interests of your business, from millions of choices, is tough.
But hiring is different to recruiting; hiring is the process one goes through once the decision has been made to select the chosen one.
The process starts with offering the job and concludes with on-boarding the new candidate. The one suggestion for all steps of this fabled process to improve it is ‘enthusiasm’.
Your new employee is likely to be a bit apprehensive about the job offer, nervous about changing roles, moving companies, meeting new colleagues.
If every step you take, from the job offer right through to the onboarding process, is carried out with the highest levels of enthusiasm, then the chances of success are significantly improved.
Showing eagerness in getting information out to the candidate. Too many candidates fall by the wayside because of undue delay in making an official offer in writing.
Keenness, shown in the language used in the offer, to get the candidate on-board.
Warmth in the tone of all communication. The apprehensiveness of the candidate can be overcome by a show of friendliness in the tone of the communication, too or overly professional is as warm as a morgue table. Energy, shown in chasing up returns of documentation, don’t expect that sent equals ball in their court.
Dynamism, on day one, everything ready for them, computer ready, phone ready, uniform good to go and finally;
Excitement, in introducing them to other members of the team.
Enthusiasm is not just doing what is expected; it is doing more than anyone expects.
Improve your hiring process by upping your enthusiasm.
