The role of an MET Fitter/Technician specifically involves removing, repairing and replacing all of the mechanical, electrical and trim components of a damaged vehicle. You will be expected to carry out repairs in line with manufacturers specifications repairing and replacing faulty parts and components and maintaining repair and service records. Having a strong, up-to-date knowledge of vehicle repairs is essential in this role.

An MET Fitter is based within a busy Bodyshop and will deal with a wide range of Vehicles and brands therefore regular training is provided. It is essential that an MET Fitter can work efficiently and to targets while paying attention to accuracy at all times. Typically MET Fitter/Technician would report into the Workshop Controller and work closely with the rest of the service team including Panel Beaters, Parts Advisors, Paint Technicians and Bodyshop Estimators.

Due to the nature of the job, employers will generally look to hire someone with NVQ or ATA Qualifications as a minimum or previous experience working as a Technician. A full UK Driving licence is also required for the role. Working within the servicing team, it is crucial that an MET Fitter is a team player who works well under pressure and has a passion for keeping up to date with the latest automotive technologies.

Typical working hours for an MET Fitter/ Technician are up to 45 hours per week and this will generally include some weekend working. In return, you will be rewarded with a great salary; usually between £22k -£27k depending on the location of the Bodyshop and experience of the individual. MET Fitters will receive a guaranteed base salary and in some businesses are rewarded a monthly efficiency bonus.
