The role of a Motorcycle Technician requires a fully qualified individual that prioritises safety and quality at all times. The main duties attributed to this role include servicing vehicles, carrying out checks and maintenance according to the manufacturers' guidelines, repairing and replacing faulty parts and components and maintaining repair and service records.
Based in busy service departments, it is essential that a Motorcycle Technician can work efficiently and to targets while paying attention to accuracy at all times. Depending on the type of Dealership you could be working on a wide range of Motorcycles or specifically with one brand; in these cases, full training is provided. Typically, a Motorcycle Technician would report into the Service Manager or Workshop Controller and work closely with the rest of the service team. At times this role will require direct interaction with customers so a friendly and professional approach is key.
Due to the nature of the job, employers will generally look to hire someone who has served a full apprenticeship in Motorcycle Repair & Maintenance or previous experience working as a Vehicle or Motorcycle Technician. A full UK Driving licence is also required for the role. Working within the servicing team, it is crucial that a Motorcycle Technician is a team player who works well under pressure and has a passion for both customer service and keeping up to date with the latest automotive technologies.
Typical working hours for a Motorcycle Technician are up to 45 hours per week and this will generally include some weekend working. In return, you will be rewarded with a great salary; usually between £22k -£25k depending on the location of the Bodyshop and experience of the individual. Technicians will receive a guaranteed base salary and in some businesses are rewarded a monthly efficiency bonus.
