The main responsibilities of a Fleet Controller include the management and distribution of fleet vehicles, ensuring vehicles are maintained to a satisfactory level including cleaning, Servicing, MOT records, wear and tear reports, managing repairs including estimates and insurance claims and ensuring full adherence to all legal requirements.

Working with Commercial Vehicles it is important that a Fleet Controller has knowledge of DVSA requirements and the legislation surrounding transportation. Much of this role depends on organisation and communication skills whether that be organising a replacement Vehicle for a HGV Driver while their Vehicle is being repaired or negotiating with suppliers to get the best deal possible on new Vehicles.

A successful Fleet Controller will be a forward thinker, able to meet deadlines and be competent in Microsoft packages in order to keep detailed and up to date records on every vehicle under their control. Some employers will ask for someone with a Mechanical Background and most will require someone with Fleet or Logistics experience.

Typical working hours for a Fleet Controller are around 40 hours per week and salaries range from £20K- £30K depending on experience. This role offers great scope for progression and career development across multiple disciplines in the Auto trade giving you flexibility and choice on what you do next. Options include Operations Controller, Logistics Manager or changing direction and using your knowledge in a Fleet Sales Manager Role.
