Motor Factor or Parts Factor is a stockist of vehicle parts and accessories who will advise and sell their products to Main Dealerships, Independently owned garages and in some cases, directly to the general public.

Parts Factors vary in size and can be independently owned or national franchised businesses. They offer various career opportunities including in the Administration and Accounts team who work hard to keep the business running smoothly and efficiently.

Vehicle Parts Administrators act as a vital support for the Sales, Service and Parts Teams. They are responsible for placing and processing orders to ensure that the right parts are in stock for customers, thereby ensuring customer satisfaction. They will liaise with the Sales and Service departments in order to determine what is needed and then handle the administration elements of each order including the accurate processing of information, maintaining accurate inventory levels and completing all paperwork. As experts in the parts and products they will also help with any customer enquiries. Most employers will provide training for candidates in this role and while no formal qualifications are required, a successful Parts Administrator would be highly organised with a keen eye for detail.

The Accounts team also play a pivotal role in the success of a Parts Factor. In larger operations they are likely to have an Accountant who will manage the finances of a number of branches within a certain radius. An Automotive Accountant is responsible for producing reports, forecasts and budgets for the operation. The Accounts team also have the responsibility of carrying out payroll and pension administration as well as other daily finance duties. Employers would usually look to take on someone who is AAT or ACA qualified.
