As a Roadside Assistance Technician you will be expected to attend breakdowns and to carry out repairs and maintenance where possible and recover vehicles when necessary. You will be assigned a specific geographical area and respond to any calls from a main call centre which involve breakdowns within this area.
This role can be high pressured and often involve some challenging working conditions but it is important that as a Roadside Technician you are able to act in a professional manner at all times and make sure that every customer feels reassured and safe. Having a positive attitude and the ability to build rapport are both important qualities for this role.
A Roadside Technician is based out on the road and although will be part of a wider team, it will often involve a lot of lone working. For this reason you should be self-motivated and able to use your initiative. Most employers will look to take on a Level 3 qualified technician and will want someone who is confident and skilful in mechanical diagnosis and repair. Having a full UK drivers licence is essential in this role. This is the perfect role for a Vehicle Technician or Mechanic looking for a change in direction.
Typically a Roadside Assistance Technician will work shifts and so shift patterns can vary hugely depending on the operating hours of the business. Some Roadside Breakdown providers operate 24/7 so you should expect to work some weekends and evenings. Average working hours can reach up to 45 hours per week. In return, you will be rewarded with a great salary; usually between £22k -£40k depending on the experience of the individual and the number of hours worked as well as other benefits such as a van and tools.
