The role of a Vehicle Returns Inspector is to carry out checks and examinations on vehicle being returned at the end of their lease to assess any damage that may have occurred. You will be expected to accurately follow company procedures and report your findings in line with quality standards. Attention to detail is paramount in this role. At times you will be required to interact directly with the customer so a friendly approach is required but it is also important that you can handle any disputes in a calm and professional way.

This role could be based within a Dealership within a leasing department or in a Leasing Company. Alternatively this role could be field based, with the Vehicle Returns Inspector travelling to the customer to carry out these checks a few weeks before their lease is due up. Most employers will state that a full UK Driving license is a requirement for the role.

As a Vehicle Returns Inspector you are likely to work with a wide range of vehicles and manufacturers so knowledge and understanding are key to this role. There is also an element of administration involved, as you will be expected to maintain customer records, write reports and provide high quality images of the vehicle you are inspecting.

Some companies will provide technology and mobile apps to support the inspection, whilst training will be provided you will need to be able to grasp the concept of these tools and use them appropriately.

Typical working hours for a Vehicle Returns Inspector are around 40 hours per week, typically Monday to Friday but could involve working an occasional Saturday as and when required. Salaries range between £23K-£26K.
