HGV / Municipal Vehicle Technician – Workshop & Mobile Based.
  • Location: Brentwood, Essex & Mobile – Company Van & Fuel Provided.
  • Salary: Competitive Basic + Good Overtime Availability.
  • Contract; Full Time, Permanent.
The HGV / Municipal Vehicle Technician is responsible for the service, maintenance, and repair of refuse collection vehicles, ensuring their safe and efficient operation. The Refuse technician will diagnose mechanical, Hydraulic and electrical issues, perform regular servicing, and conduct inspections to ensure compliance with relevant health, safety, and environmental standards.

Our client is a family run Company based in Brentwood where looking after their staff as much as their customers is the key to their success. In this role you will work within a team of 9 Technicians + Managers to ensure the fleet of vehicles passing through the workshop runs smoothly.

Key Responsibilities of this HGV / Municipal Vehicle Technician include:
  • Perform regular maintenance on refuse vehicles (e.g., changing oil, replacing filters, checking tire pressure, etc.).
  • Diagnose mechanical and electrical issues and carry out necessary repairs.
  • Maintain and repair all parts of the refuse vehicle including engines, hydraulics, pneumatic systems, and electrical circuits.
  • Ensure the vehicles are safe and roadworthy for operation.
  • Identify and troubleshoot issues with refuse collection vehicles, ensuring downtime is minimised.
Inspection & Diagnostics:
  • Conduct routine inspections of vehicles, including emissions testing and safety checks.
  • Utilise diagnostic tools and equipment to identify faults in the vehicle's engine, transmission, brakes, and other key systems.
  • Maintain accurate service records and documentation for all vehicles serviced and repaired.
Mobile Working:
  • The position may involve working in a workshop environment or on-site, depending on the job requirements.
  • Travelling to a customer’s site to work on their Municipal Vehicle’s in their workshop.
  • Issued a Company Can and Fuel Card – when working mobile your day starts and ends at home and all hours including travel time are logged and paid.
Details & Benefits of the Refuse Vehicle Technician:
  • Competitive Basic Salary dependent on experience up to £51,870 p.a.
  • Day time hours Monday to Friday 7.00am to 4.00pm & Saturdays (1 in 2 worked) 7.00am to 12.00pm. 
  • Overtime available at time+half – you need to be flexible towards working overtime to be a part of and offer support to your workshop team members.
  • Use of a Company Van form Day One & Fuel Card provided too.
  • 21 days holiday + bank holidays
  • Contract: Full Time, Permanent.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Experience: Proven experience as an HGV Technician, preferably with refuse heavy vehicles (HGV).
  • Qualifications: Ideally a relevant qualification (e.g., NVQ Level 3 in Vehicle Maintenance and Repair or equivalent).
  • Technical Skills: Strong knowledge of vehicle engines, hydraulics, pneumatics, and electrical systems.
  • Diagnostic Skills: Ability to use diagnostic tools and equipment to troubleshoot issues.
  • Problem Solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Health and Safety Awareness: Knowledge of health and safety regulations in vehicle maintenance and repair.
  • Physical Stamina: Ability to lift heavy parts where required.
