With over 30 million registered motor vehicles on Britain’s roads in 2018, it is of no surprise that tens of thousands of these are involved in an accident or damaged. This is where the role of an Estimator becomes relevant. An Estimator has the responsibility of assessing accident damaged vehicles and creating estimates for their repair.
Working within the Motor Trade, Estimators are employed by Bodyshops; these can be within a Main Dealer environment, for an insurance owned Accident Repair Centre or independently owned businesses.
Working closely alongside other Bodyshop Technicians, including Paint Sprayers, MET Fitters and Panel Beaters, the role of an Estimator requires you to be a strong team player, excellent attention to detail and good communication skills.
The hours of an Estimator will vary depending on the environment you work within; however, they typically tend to be 40hours Monday to Friday with the opportunity for overtime at the weekends.
Most Estimators/ Vehicle Damage Assessors will work with a wide range of vehicles and manufacturers so knowledge and understanding of the workings of vehicles and manufacturers standards are key to this role.
A successful Estimator will also be rewarded with some fantastic career progression and training into management roles such as Workshop Controller and eventually reaching Bodyshop Manager status.
