A Habitation Technician is a specialist technician for caravan and motorhome vehicles. This role requires technical skills in order to conduct general fault finding and repairs, a multi-skilled back ground and the ability to work as part of a team.
Typically, a Habitation Technician is based in a Motorhome Dealership and will usually report into the Aftersales Manager. Every Motorhome Dealership will have its own way of operating depending if it’s a National Franchise or independently run however; most will expect a Habitation Technician to be able to carry out detailed habitation inspections, offer woodwork and internal repairs as well as Heating, Gas and Electric diagnostics and repairs.
The working hours of a Habitation Technician vary from business to business but will usually be up to 45 hours per week, with some weekend working on a rota basis.
The role of a Habitation Technician is one that is very varied, and whilst it concentrates mainly on the Service and Repair of Motorhomes, it is also a role that encompasses diagnostic work, auto-electrics and even woodwork.
Progression in a career as a Habitation Mechanic can involve becoming a Shift Supervisor, Workshop Controller or a Habitation Service Manager. Alternatively you could move into a more generalist role within a Bodyshop as an MET Technician, Master Technician or Senior Technician.
