LCV Technicians are responsible for the servicing and repairs of light commercial vehicles and vans. They can be found working within Commercial Dealerships or Fleet and Logistics companies. The role of a LCV Fitter is one that is of high importance due to the sheer number of commercial vehicles on the roads of the UK.
The working hours of an LCV Technician vary from business to business but are typically a 40 hour week. This will tend to be Monday to Friday but it is worth noting that some Commercial Vehicle businesses operate on a shift basis, either Nights or Day shifts. It is also common that Commercial Vehicle Technicians will work additional hours paid at overtime by being on call for a 24 hour period.
The role of an LCV Mechanic is one that is very varied, and whilst it concentrates mainly on the Service and Repair of light commercial vehicles and vans, it is also a role that encompasses diagnostic work, auto-electrics and even welding.
Progression in a career as a Commercial Vehicle Mechanic can involve becoming a Shift Supervisor, an LCV Service Manager or a Depot Manager. Alternatively, a Technician may decide to use the knowledge they’ve built up on the commercial vehicle industry and move across to a Sales role. Starting at Commercial Sales Executive and working their way up to Commercial Sales Manager.
