A Local Business Development Manager in the Motor Trade is tasked with growing a Dealership by promoting and selling its products and services to the local business community. This includes gaining new business and maximising profitability and sales opportunities of existing customers.
This role is most commonly based within Commercial Dealerships meaning the Business Development Manager will sell directly to other business. Sales will include fleets vehicles and company cars. It is important that an LMBD possess desire and drive to prospect for new business and has a solid understanding of finance, leasing and fleet sales.
Typically an Automotive Local Business Development Manager will be allocated a territory to cover and this will vary in size depending on the geography of the Dealership and its Franchises.
This role is a perfect step up for an experienced Sales Executive and one which provides the opportunity to help the right person progress in to a managerial position such as Commercial Sales Manager.
Having such a hands on role in supervising and developing the Sales Team, it is essential that a Local Business Development Manager possesses strong management skills, a professional manner and is enthusiastic and proactive.
A Local Business Development Manager’s hours reflect those of the Dealership, so typically they will work 40 hours across a 5 day week, some weekend working may be expected to support the needs of the business.
