Master Technicians are generally thought of as the leading technical experts within the team and are both highly experienced and respected.
The role of a master mechanic is one that is highly physical and requires skill and expertise as well as qualifications. These qualifications typically include minimum level 3 City & Guilds, NVQ or IMI accreditation in Light Vehicle Mechanics as well as a number of years’ experience in the role of a Technician.
In most instances a Master Technician will be based in a Main Dealership and will be an expert for a particular brand. It is essential that a Master Vehicle Technician is highly skilled in fault diagnoses and working on complex repairs and diagnostic repairs. Working as part of the service team you will be required to support the rest of the team when required and act as a mentor for the newer Service Technicians. Typically a Master Technician would support the Service Manager and Workshop Controller to drive the business forward.
As a Master Technician, you can typically expect to be working 40-45 hours week, Monday to Friday with Saturdays on a Rota Basis. This role provides the opportunity for regular training and development and for the right person is a stepping stone to more senior positions such as a Workshop Controller or Bodyshop Manager.
