A Senior Vehicle Technician is a fully qualified Technician who has worked their way up from Vehicle Technician. They would be qualified to NVQ level 3 in Vehicle Maintenance and Repair or Vehicle Mechanics or equivalent as well as a proven track record of success in a busy service department. A Senior Technician would also be expected to have experience of fault diagnosis and working on complex repairs.
A Vehicle Technician can be based in a Main Car Dealership, Commercial Dealership, Fast Fit Centre, independently owned Garages, Accident repair centre, or a Motorcycle Dealership so the role is diverse and rewarding. The main duties attributed to this role include servicing vehicles, carrying out checks and maintenance according to the manufacturers' guidelines, repairing and replacing faulty parts and components and maintaining repair and service records.
Typical working hours for a Senior Vehicle Technician are around 40 hours per week and this will generally include some weekend working. Some businesses will reward their Technicians with a performance based bonus as well as the opportunity for regular training and development.
The role of Senior Vehicle Technician offers great scope for progression, typically you would work your way up to Master Technician and on to Workshop Controller.
