As an Auto Electrician working within the Motor Trade you will be responsible for a variety of technical duties based around vehicle electrics. These would typically include; diagnostic work, wiring defaults and repairs as well as fitting electrical accessories such as cameras and warning systems to vehicles. You will also be required to accurately complete the relevant paperwork assigned to each job.
Auto Electricians may work within a Main Dealership’s service department or be based in a workshop or bodyshop. Some businesses may offer mobile repairs which would require you to work off-site. The right candidate would be required to fully competent in the servicing and repair of vehicles to the highest standards. This would typically mean being qualified in Auto Electrics or a similar qualification as well as holding a driving license. Having a positive attitude and strong problem solving skills is essential for this role as are communication skills and a keen eye for detail.
The working hours for an Auto Electrician are usually based around shift work which could include working on a Saturday. Salaries can range from £25-35K depending on the location of the role and experience of the individual. The role of Auto Electrician is diverse and has much potential for growth for the right candidate. The natural next steps would be a promotion to Quality Controller or Workshop Controller.
