The role of a Brand Manager in the automotive industry specifically focuses on developing and executing brand marketing programmes with a view to grow the business and its profitability.
A brand manager will be based in a Dealership and will oversee the franchise. They usually report into the Senior Management team including the Managing Directors, meaning there is a lot of expectation attached to this role. As Brand Manager you will be expected to work closely with the Aftersales Manager and the New & Used Car Sales Manager to ensure that all departments are meeting and exceeding both financial and business targets. The ability to build strong working relationships is crucial in this role as you will be the point of contact between the brand and their retail network. You may be expected to attend brand launches and other events where, as Brand Manager you will be both an advocate and expert on the brand you are representing.
Another key aspect of this role involves customer retention. It will be your duty to deal with customers directly as and when required, ensuring the highest levels of customer satisfaction and offering positive resolutions to any disputes.
The desirable qualities of a Brand Manager include excellent communication skills, capable of delivering outstanding customer service, an eye for detail, managerial skills, and strategic thinker able to work to targets.
Being a senior role, most employers will be looking for someone with experience and understanding of the automotive industry, including from a finance perspective. You will be expected to influence and negotiate with senior stakeholders so only professional, experienced candidates with a proven track record will be considered.
Typical hours for this role are around 40 hours per week, some autotrade dealerships may expect a Brand Manager to work some weekends depending on the needs of the business. In return, you will be rewarded with a great salary; which can vary significantly depending on the brand you are representing. As a broad benchmark, salary can range between £30-£60k.
