The role of an Aftersales Manager in the Motor Trade is a diverse and hands on one. It comes with much responsibility as the Aftersales Manager could be expected to manage the Aftersales team, consisting of Vehicle Technicians, Workshop Controller and Service Advisors, Service Administrators and Parts Advisors.
Some businesses may also have on-site accident repair facilities and in these instances, the role of Aftersales Manager often includes leadership and management of this separate business function. As such, you may be tasked with controlling the Bodyshop operations and staff including Panel Beaters, Paint Sprayers and Bodyshop Technicians.
Aftersales Managers generally work within a Dealership and these can be independently owned, franchised or national businesses. Most Dealerships will have a wide portfolio of brands they work with and the Aftersales Manager will be responsible for maintaining strong working relationships with these brands.
Typically, the hours of work for an Aftersales Manager are 40hours per week with the possibility of working weekends on a rota basis; this will depend on the dealership you are working for.
This is a senior automotive role in itself but this doesn't limit the future career prospects of an Aftersales Manager as you will develop many transferrable skills.
